Task Re-mapping Process

Task Re-mapping Process

Overview

The Task Re-mapping Process is an administrative operation used to reassign tasks from one piece of content to another. This is typically required when content is being retired, updated, or replaced with a newer version.

This article explains how the re-mapping process works and when it should be used. For detailed preparation guidance, see the Planning for Task Remapping article.

Functionality Breakdown

Task re-mapping allows you to:

  • Transfer existing task assignments from one Activity to another

  • Preserve completion history where possible

  • Maintain task deadlines and configurations

  • Avoid manually deleting and recreating tasks

Pre-requisites

Role Requirements

Task re-mapping is an administrative operation that is typically performed by:

  • Learn Amp Support Team – For bulk re-mapping operations

  • Admins / Owners – May request re-mapping through support

⚠️ Note: This is not a self-service feature. Please contact your Customer Success Manager or Learn Amp Support to request a task re-mapping.

Before Requesting a Re-mapping

Ensure you have:

  • Identified the source content (content tasks are currently assigned to)

  • Identified the target content (content you want tasks reassigned to)

  • Decided whether completion status should be preserved or reset

  • Reviewed the Planning for Task Remapping article if this is a complex re-mapping

Quick Start Guide

Requesting a Task Re-mapping

  1. Identify the source content (the content tasks are currently assigned to)

  2. Identify the target content (the content you want tasks reassigned to)

  3. Contact your Customer Success Manager or raise a support request

  4. Provide the content IDs or URLs for both source and target

  5. Specify whether completion status should be preserved or reset

What Happens During Re-mapping

  • All tasks pointing to the source content are updated to point to the target content

  • Task metadata (deadlines, assignees, mandatory status) is preserved

  • Completion status handling depends on your requirements

For Complex Re-mappings

If you're re-mapping multiple content items, changing team assignments, or modifying recurrence rules, you'll need to complete the planning template:

  1. Request the planning template from your CSM or Support

  2. Follow the guidance in the Planning for Task Remapping article

  3. Submit the completed template with your re-mapping request

Completion Handling Options

When requesting a re-mapping, you can choose how to handle completion status:

Option 1: Preserve Completions

  • Users who completed the source content are marked as complete for the target

  • Useful when the target content is substantially similar

  • Recommended for minor content updates or version refreshes

Option 2: Reset Completions

  • All users start fresh with the target content

  • Useful when the target content is significantly different

  • Recommended when you need users to engage with new material

Option 3: Selective Handling

  • Preserve completions for some users/groups, reset for others

  • Requires more detailed planning—discuss with your CSM

FAQs

Q: Can I re-map tasks myself?
No. Task re-mapping requires backend access and is performed by the Learn Amp team.

Q: Will users be notified of the change?
By default, no notifications are sent. You can request that users be informed separately, or use a company announcement.

Q: What happens to completion history?
This depends on your requirements. Completion status can be preserved or reset during the re-mapping.

Q: Can I re-map tasks to a completely different content type?
Yes, but consider whether this makes sense for your learners. Re-mapping from a Quiz to a Learnlist, for example, may confuse users.

Q: How long does the process take?
Turnaround depends on the complexity of the request. Simple re-mappings are typically completed within 1-2 business days. Complex re-mappings with many content items may take longer.

Q: What if I need to re-map tasks for multiple content items?
For bulk re-mappings, you'll need to complete the planning template. See the Planning for Task Remapping article for details.

Q: Can I re-map recurring tasks?
Yes. Recurring tasks can be re-mapped and will continue to recur with the target content.

Q: What happens to tasks that are already overdue?
Overdue tasks are re-mapped like any other task. The overdue status and original deadline are preserved.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Issue

Solution

Tasks not appearing on new content

Verify the re-mapping was completed; contact Support if issues persist.

Completion status was unexpectedly reset

Confirm the requirements provided in your re-mapping request.

Users confused by content change

Consider sending a communication to affected users explaining the update.

Some users weren't re-mapped

Check if those users were in the original task scope. Users added after re-mapping won't be affected.

Recurring tasks stopped recurring

Verify recurrence settings with Support—they should be preserved but may need review.
