Can I limit completion expiry to occur only when a task recurs?

Note: This setting is available to customers with the Beta feature “New Design for Add Task Form” enabled.

How do I stop completion expiry when a recurring task is first set?

With the “When task recurs, reset completion and ask learner to complete again” setting, you can control when completion resets. If enabled, users won’t need to redo the content the first time it's assigned if they've already completed it. However, when the task recurs, their completion status will reset, requiring them to complete it again.

How do I make sure users only redo the task when it recurs?

You can enable this setting while creating a task:

  1. Follow one of the available paths to create a new task, for example from the top menu (“Add New → Task”).

  2. Select “Recurring task”.

  3. Fill in the task information and navigate to the “Advanced settings” step.

  4. Make sure the box for “If learner has completed this content, ask them to complete it againis unchecked.

  5. Check the box for “When task recurs, reset completion and ask learner to complete again.”

  6. Save your changes.

When does this setting appear?

You will see this option only if:

  • The task is recurring.

  • The setting “If learner has completed this content, ask them to complete it again” is not selected.

Can I modify this setting after task creation?

Yes! Please go to “Edit task” to find the setting and change it if necessary.

Why is this helpful?

This setting is ideal when you don’t want users to re-do completed content the first time a task is set, but you do want to expire that completion when the task recurs. This helps organizations manage periodic compliance training or refresher courses efficiently.
