📊 Scoped manager access to custom reports (Alpha)

This new functionality is available for customers who have access to Advanced Analytics.

📌 Overview

This feature introduces scoped access to custom insights—created via Learn Amp’s Advanced Analytics tool—for Managers with the Learner, Curator, or Learning Designer roles. These managers can now view custom widgets that are limited to data about their direct reports only.

Previously, these roles had access to “regular” widgets added to dashboards, but could not view any custom insights. With this feature update, organizations can extend rich, targeted analytics to managers—without compromising on access control or data privacy.

Note that regular widgets (found in the widget catalogue under the Learn/ Connect/ Perform/ Skills/ Engagement data sections) won’t be scoped automatically to the manager’s remit; this new feature will apply only to Custom insights (created via Advanced Analytics).

🧠 Why This Matters

This feature supports decentralised learning and development strategies by giving more managers the ability to:

  • Monitor their teams’ learning and performance

  • Identify areas for coaching and support

  • Drive better outcomes through data-informed decision-making

All while maintaining data security: managers only see data for the people they manage directly—nothing more.

This update ensures the right people have access to the right data, helping your organization scale L&D responsibly.

🧭 How to Use This Feature

  1. As an Admin or Owner, follow these steps to set up scoped access for your managers:

    1. Create a new dashboard or tailor an existing one for your management audience:

      1. Settings to use:

        1. Audience type = “By Manager type”

        2. Visible to Primary and Override Managers

    2. Add relevant custom widgets (built in Advanced Analytics) — these will be scoped automatically to each manager’s direct reports.

    3. Share the dashboard with Managers who hold the Learner, Curator, or Learning Designer roles and manage at least one person for them to test this.

    4. When accessing the dashboard, those Managers will see the data automatically scoped down to their management remit.

Considerations and limitations:

  1. Secondary managers are not supported in this release.

  2. Sub-team or multi-level visibility is not supported in this release.

  3. "Login as" does not simulate scoped access correctly unless the GoodData JWT token is manually cleared after logging in as a manager, and after logging out.

FAQ:

Our Product team will reach out to schedule a brief call to gather your feedback, approximately 2 weeks after the feature has been enabled for you.
We will ask you about use cases in your organisation and about your experience in using the feature (what was helpful, what was not so helpful, anything you needed to do but couldn’t, with the existing functionality).
While testing, please take screenshots / screen recordings or notes of anything that is unclear or shows a discrepancy that needs to be investigated.
The feature is in Alpha stage, therefore bugs are possible.

This will be enabled directly in your live account, to ensure you can try it with real data from your organisation.
We are able to enable this feature for the whole organisation or for specific users, if you decide only specific Managers with Learner, Curator, Learning designer role should see the feature at this stage.

The manager will be able to see data related to all their direct reports, via team and override management, in the custom reports. They won’t be able to differentiate between the team or the override managed users separately unless the custom report is built to provide team and user level information.

Equally, if a manager manages more than one team, this data will also appearing all together in the custom report. Admins can design reports to be sliced by Team name if this is a common use case for your organisation.

This is not available at this stage, but we are keen to hear about your use cases and feedback to inform future development of this feature.

At this stage, the new functionality is only available for Custom insights created via Advanced Analytics.
Regular widgets, the ones appearing in the widget catalogue under the Learn / Connect / Perform / Skills / Engagement data sections, will not automatically scope down to the manager’s remit at this stage.
