Item and Exercise Creation (Open Beta)

Volt's item and exercise creation agents allow you to generate learning items and exercises from natural language instructions. These features are currently in Open Beta, available to Admins and Owners with Volt enabled.

Overview

Creating learning items takes time — Volt's creation agents are here to speed that up. Describe what you need and Volt will build a structured item or exercise for you, using your platform's existing item framework.

The following creation agents are available within this feature area:

• Item Creator — Generates a new learning item using your platform's item framework

• Exercise Creator — Creates exercises within items

• Exercise Remover — Removes exercises from items (also available as an update action — see Updating Items with Volt (Open Beta))

This feature is currently in Open Beta. You can enable it from Company Settings → AI Features.

Functionality Breakdown

• Generates new learning items from a natural language prompt

• Creates exercises within existing or newly created items

• Follows your platform's item framework and structure

• Works alongside File Upload — you can upload a PDF, DOCX, or PPTX as source material for item creation

• Exercise Remover allows exercises to be removed from items via a conversational instruction

Pre-requisites

• Volt must be enabled from Company Settings → AI Features

• The Item Creator, Exercise Creator, and/or Exercise Remover toggles must be active

Role Requirements

Quick Start Guide

1. From the sidebar, select Settings, then AI Features

2. Ensure Volt AI Assistants is toggled on

3. Enable the Item Creator and/or Exercise Creator toggles

4. Open the Volt panel from the sidebar

5. Describe the item you want to create — for example, "Create a learning item on fire safety procedures for new starters" or "Create an exercise with three scenario-based questions about customer complaints"

6. Review the generated item, make any edits, and publish when ready

💡 You can upload a document (PDF, DOCX, or PPTX) and ask Volt to create an item based on it. Enable the File Upload agent and attach your file before making your request.

FAQs

Q: What framework does Volt use to create items?
Volt uses your platform's standard item framework — the same structure you'd use when creating items manually. This keeps everything consistent across your content library.

Q: Can I use Item Creator alongside other agents?
Yes. For example, you could create an item with Item Creator and immediately ask Volt to add exercises to it, or use File Upload to base the item on an uploaded document.

Q: How do I update or modify an item after Volt creates it?
You can either edit the item manually on the platform, or use Volt's Item Updater and Exercise Updater agents. See Updating Items with Volt (Open Beta) for guidance.
