The Homepage Experience

The Homepage Experience

Overview

The Homepage is what learners see when they log in to Learn Amp. It's powered by a Dashboard—a configurable, widget-based page that brings together everything a user needs to focus on their development.

While administrators work with Dashboards (creating, configuring, and assigning them), learners experience Homepages—personalised views that surface the right content at the right time. Understanding the Homepage experience helps you design Dashboards that truly support your people.

Functionality Breakdown

What Users See on Their Homepage

When a learner logs in, their Homepage displays content organised into clear sections:

Section

Welcomes users and sets context

Custom image, title, and subtitle

Assigned Pathways

Drives required learning

Personal Development Pathway and Channels set as Tasks

Channels for You

Search, bookmarks, recommendations, reports

The Two Main Content Sections

The Homepage organises learning content into two distinct areas:

Assigned Pathways (White Background)
This section appears at the top when Tasks are set for users. It contains:

  • The Personal Development Pathway—a consolidated view of all time-sensitive items

  • Channel Tasks—Channels assigned with deadlines

💡 Tip: This section only appears if you've set Tasks for your users. If no Tasks are assigned, learners only see the Channels for You section.

Channels for You
This section displays Channels made visible without requiring a Task. Use it for:

  • Company-wide announcements

  • Role-specific resources

  • Optional learning pathways

  • General reference content

When individual Items are shared with a user, they appear in a special "Shared with You" Channel at the top of this section.

Targeting Homepages to Different User Groups

One of the most powerful features of Learn Amp Dashboards is the ability to show different Homepages to different groups of users. This ensures everyone sees content relevant to their role, team, or stage in the organisation.

Available Audience Types

Audience Type

Best For

How It Works

Audience Type

  • Learner – Standard users consuming content

  • Curator – Users who manage content

  • Reporter – Users who need access to reports

  • Admin – Administrative users

  • Owner – Account owners

You can set one Dashboard as the default for each role, which appears first when users log in.

Onboarding Homepages

Create a dedicated Homepage experience for new starters:

Setting

Description

Setting

Description

Days after start date

How long the onboarding Homepage remains visible (e.g., 30, 60, 90 days)

Visible after onboarding

Whether the Homepage remains accessible after the onboarding period ends

💡 Tip: Use onboarding Homepages to guide new starters through essential learning in their first weeks. Combine with Tasks to create structured onboarding pathways.

⚠️ Note: Only one onboarding Dashboard can exist per company at a time.

Team-Based Homepages

Show specific Homepages to members of particular teams. This is perfect for:

  • Department-specific content (Sales, Marketing, Engineering)

  • Regional variations

  • Project teams with dedicated resources

You can select multiple teams and set which team sees the Homepage as their default.

Manager Type Homepages

Target Homepages to different types of managers:

Manager Type

Primary Manager

The main manager responsible for team members

Secondary Manager

Additional managers (e.g., dotted-line reports)

Override Manager

Managers who override the standard hierarchy

Stand-in Manager

Temporary managers covering for others

How Homepage Priority Works

When a user matches multiple Dashboard audiences, Learn Amp displays them in this order:

  1. Personal Manager Dashboards (if enabled)

  2. Onboarding Dashboards (if within the onboarding period)

  3. Manager Type Dashboards (if user is a manager)

  4. Team Dashboards (based on team membership)

  5. Role-based Dashboards (based on user role)

The first matching default Dashboard becomes the user's Homepage when they log in.

How the Homepage Personalises Content

The Homepage automatically personalises what each user sees:

Widget Type

Behaviour

Widget Type

Behaviour

Personalised widgets

Show content specific to each user (e.g., their assigned Channels, their upcoming Events)

Fixed widgets

Show the same content to everyone (e.g., company-wide announcements)

This creates an experience that feels individually relevant whilst maintaining connection to the broader organisation.

FAQs

What's the difference between the Homepage and a Dashboard?
They're two sides of the same coin. A Dashboard is what administrators create and configure. A Homepage is what learners experience when they log in. Every Homepage is powered by a Dashboard.

Why do some users see different Homepages?
Homepages can be targeted to specific roles, teams, or user types. An Admin might see a reporting-focused Homepage, whilst a Learner sees one focused on content discovery. You can also create Onboarding Homepages for new starters.

Can users switch between different Homepages?
Yes! If multiple Dashboards are visible to a user's role, they can switch between them using the Dashboard selector. You can also set which Dashboard appears by default.

How do I create an onboarding experience for new starters?
Create a Dashboard with the "Onboarding" audience type. Set the number of days it should be visible (e.g., 90 days from hire date). The Homepage will automatically appear for new users based on their hire date in the system.

Can I show different Homepages to different teams?
Yes! Create a Dashboard with the "Team" audience type and select which teams should see it. This is perfect for department-specific or regional content.

Where does my content appear on the Homepage?

  • Content set as a Task appears in the Assigned Pathways section

  • Content made visible (not tasked) appears in the Channels for You section

  • Content shared directly with a user appears in the Shared with You Channel

Why isn't the Assigned Pathways section showing for my users?
This section only appears when Tasks are set. If users have no assigned Tasks, they'll only see the Channels for You section and any configured widgets.

What happens when a user matches multiple Dashboard audiences?
Learn Amp uses a priority order: Onboarding Dashboards take priority, then Manager Type, then Team, then Role-based. The first matching default Dashboard becomes the user's Homepage.

Can I have only one onboarding Dashboard?
Yes, only one onboarding Dashboard can exist per company. This ensures a consistent new starter experience.

Can learners customise their own Homepage?
Learners cannot rearrange widgets, but they can:

  • Dismiss shared Items

  • Bookmark content for quick access

  • Choose which Dashboard to view (if multiple are available)
