Content Sync and Refresh Behaviour

Content Sync and Refresh Behaviour

Overview

Once you've imported Pluralsight courses into Learn Amp, the integration keeps content information up to date automatically. This guide explains how content syncing works, what gets updated, and how to handle courses that change or get retired in Pluralsight.

Understanding sync behaviour helps you maintain a healthy, accurate content library.

What Doesn't Sync

Some elements are managed locally in Learn Amp and won't be overwritten:

  • Visibility settings: Your access controls remain unchanged

  • Learnlist/Channel assignments: Course placement in collections persists

  • Custom tags you've added: Any Learn Amp-specific tags are preserved

  • Completion records: Learner progress is never removed

Sync Frequency

  • Content metadata: Refreshes periodically (typically daily)

  • Progress/completions: Syncs multiple times throughout the day

  • New course availability: Appears when you search the Pluralsight browser

💡 Tip: You don't need to re-import a course to get updated information – it happens automatically.

Prerequisites

Role Requirements

Content sync happens automatically and doesn't require any specific role. However, to manage imported content:

  • Curator

  • Learning Designer

  • Admin

  • Owner

Quick Start Guide

Checking When Content Last Synced

To verify your Pluralsight content is current:

  1. Navigate to ManageItems from the sidebar

  2. Find a Pluralsight course

  3. Check the item details for the last updated timestamp

Handling Retired or Changed Courses

If a course is retired in Pluralsight:

  1. The course remains in your Learn Amp library

  2. Learners may see errors when trying to access it

  3. Consider archiving the item in Learn Amp

If a course is significantly updated:

  1. Metadata updates automatically

  2. Existing completions are preserved

  3. The course URL should remain valid

If a course URL changes:

  1. The sync should update the URL automatically

  2. If learners report broken links, try re-importing the course

Archiving Outdated Content

To remove a course that's no longer relevant:

  1. Navigate to the item in ManageItems

  2. Open the course details

  3. Select Archive to remove it from active library

  4. Existing completion records are preserved

⚠️ Warning: Archiving removes the course from learner visibility but doesn't delete completion history.

FAQs

How often does content metadata refresh?
Content syncs periodically throughout the day. Most updates appear within 24 hours of changes in Pluralsight.

Can I force a manual sync?
The sync process is automatic. If you need an immediate update, contact Learn Amp support for assistance.

What happens if Pluralsight removes a course entirely?
The item remains in your Learn Amp library, but the deep link will no longer work. Archive the item to prevent confusion.

Will syncing overwrite changes I've made in Learn Amp?
Only Pluralsight-sourced fields are updated. Your visibility settings, custom tags, and assignments are preserved.

Do I need to re-import courses to get updates?
No. Already-imported courses update automatically. Re-importing would create a duplicate.

What if a course is split into multiple parts in Pluralsight?
The original imported course remains. You'd need to import the new courses separately if you want them in your library.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Issue

Solution

Course information looks outdated

Wait for the next sync cycle (up to 24 hours). If still outdated after that, contact Learn Amp support.

Course link broken for learners

The course may have been retired in Pluralsight. Check Pluralsight directly and archive the item in Learn Amp if needed.

Duplicate courses appearing

This can happen if a course is imported twice. Archive the duplicate and keep the one with completion history.

Course duration showing incorrectly

Duration should sync automatically. If persistently wrong, the source data in Pluralsight may need checking.

Thumbnails not loading

Image URLs may have changed. The next sync should resolve this. Clear your browser cache if the issue persists.

New Pluralsight course not available

New courses appear in the Pluralsight browser immediately. If missing, check your Pluralsight subscription includes access to that content.
