Overview

Linking skills to Items allows you to track skill development as learners complete content. When a learner completes an Item with linked skills, their progress towards those skills is automatically recorded, providing valuable insights into capability development across your organisation.

This feature supports competency frameworks, learning pathways, and skills-based reporting.

  1. Create or select skills – Define the skills in your company's skill library

Pre-requisites

Role Requirements

To link skills to Items, you must have one of the following roles:

  • Owner – Full access within their company

  • Admin – Administrative access within their company

  • Learning Designer – Can create and manage learning content

  • Curator – Can curate and manage content

Additional Requirements

  • Skills must be created in the Skills area before they can be linked to Items

  • The company must have the Skills feature enabled


Quick Start Guide

Linking Skills When Creating an Item

  1. Click the + Create button in the sidebar navigation

  2. Select Item and choose your Item type

  3. Complete the Key Details step

  4. In the Completion step, find the Skills section

  5. Click to add skills

  6. Search for and select the relevant skills

  7. Continue with the remaining setup steps

  8. Click Submit to save

Adding Skills to an Existing Item

  1. Navigate to the Item you want to edit

  2. Click the three-dot menu and select Edit

  3. Go to the Completion step

  4. In the Skills section, click to add skills

  5. Search for and select the skills to link

  6. Save your changes

Removing Skills from an Item

  1. Edit the Item

  2. Navigate to the Completion step

  3. Find the linked skill you want to remove

  4. Click the remove/X button next to the skill

  5. Save your changes

Choosing Which Skills to Link

  • Be specific – Link skills that are directly developed by the content

  • Limit quantity – Focus on 2-5 core skills per Item for meaningful tracking

  • Consider levels – Match content difficulty to skill levels where applicable

  • Think about pathways – Consider how Items combine to build comprehensive skills

  • Use existing skills – Search for skills before creating new ones to avoid duplicates

Can't find the Skills section

Check you're in the Completion step of Item editing. Verify Skills are enabled for your company.
