Duplicating Items
Overview
Duplicating Items creates an independent copy of existing content, saving time when you need to create similar Items or repurpose content for different audiences. The duplicate includes all content, settings, translations, and attached files.
This is different from adding the same Item to multiple locations—a duplicate is a completely separate Item that can be modified independently.

Naming Convention
Duplicated Items are automatically named with the original title plus the current date:
Original: "Introduction to Project Management"
Duplicate: "Introduction to Project Management - 27 Nov 2025"
You can rename the duplicate after creation.
E-Learning Packages
When duplicating Items with SCORM or xAPI packages:
The e-learning files are copied to the new Item
Each duplicate has its own independent tracking
Learner progress is tracked separately for each copy
💡 Tip: Duplicating e-learning Items is useful when you need separate completion tracking for different cohorts or programmes.

FAQs
Does duplicating copy learner completions?
No, the duplicate starts fresh with no learner activity. This is by design—each Item tracks completions independently.
Can I duplicate Items between companies?
If you have access to multiple companies (e.g., parent/child accounts), Items can be duplicated across companies. The duplicate becomes part of the destination company's content.
What happens to ratings and reviews?
Ratings and reviews are not copied. The duplicate starts with no ratings.
Are translations included?
Yes, all language versions of the Item are duplicated, including translated titles, descriptions, and uploaded files.
How long does duplication take?
Simple Items duplicate almost instantly. Items with large e-learning packages or multiple files may take a few moments to process.
Can I duplicate archived Items?
No, you must first unarchive an Item before duplicating it.
Is there a limit to how many times I can duplicate?
No, there's no limit. You can duplicate an Item as many times as needed.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Duplicate option not appearing | Check you have the required role. The Item may also be archived |
Duplication seems stuck | Large e-learning packages take longer. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page |
E-learning not working in duplicate | The package may still be processing. Check back in a few minutes |
Missing translations in duplicate | Ensure all translations were saved in the original before duplicating |
Cannot find the duplicate | Check the Items list sorted by date—duplicates appear as the newest Items |
Exercise not duplicated | You may have chosen not to include the Exercise. Duplicate again and select to include it |
