Using Surveys in 1-to-1s (Question Sets)
Overview
Question Sets allow you to embed Surveys directly into 1-to-1 meetings, creating a structured space for both reviewees and reviewers to share feedback. Whether you're running performance reviews, regular check-ins, or development conversations, Question Sets make it easy to collect consistent, meaningful input from everyone involved.
This article explains how Question Sets work, who can complete them, and how to set them up within your 1-to-1 templates.
Functionality Breakdown
What is a Question Set?
A Question Set is a special type of Survey designed specifically for 1-to-1 meetings. Unlike regular Surveys that are issued independently, Question Sets are embedded directly into 1-to-1 templates and completed as part of the meeting workflow.
Key differences from regular Surveys:
Embedded directly in 1-to-1 meeting templates
Can be completed by the reviewee, reviewer, or both
Responses can be marked as private (visible only to Admins)
Support notes and comments on individual answers
Automatically linked to the specific 1-to-1 occurrence
Who Fills Out the Survey?
When adding a Question Set to a 1-to-1 template, you choose who completes it:
Option | Who Completes | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
Reviewee | The person being reviewed | Self-assessment, preparation for the meeting |
Reviewer | The manager or assessor | Performance evaluation, feedback delivery |
Both | Both participants complete the same questions | 360-style feedback, collaborative reflection |
Private Question Sets
You can mark a Question Set as private to restrict who can see the responses:
Responses are only visible to Admins and Owners
The reviewee and reviewer cannot see each other's answers
Useful for sensitive feedback, confidential performance data, or HR-related assessments

FAQs

A: Yes. Once created, a Question Set can be linked to multiple 1-to-1 templates without recreating it.

A: Only Owners and Admins can see the responses. The manager (reviewer) and the employee (reviewee) won't be able to see each other's answers.
Q: Do Question Sets support all survey question types?
A: Yes. You can use Free-text, Radio Button, Drop-down, Multiple Choice, Opinion Scale, and Poll questions.
Q: Are Question Set responses included in Survey reports?
A: Question Sets are reported separately within the 1-to-1 reporting area, not in the main Survey reports section.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Question Set not appearing in 1-to-1 | Verify the Question Set is linked to the 1-to-1 template and that the template has been saved. |
Can't see other participant's responses | Check if the Question Set is marked as Private. Private Question Sets hide responses from non-Admin users. |
Both participants can't fill out the Survey | Verify the "answers from" setting is configured as "Both" in the template. |
Question Set responses missing from reports | Question Sets are reported in the 1-to-1 Reports area, not the Survey Reports section. |
