1-to-1s
Overview
1-to-1s in Learn Amp provide a structured space for regular feedback between managers and their team members. They help managers keep track of their team's tasks, prepare meeting agendas, understand team sentiment, and create a channel for raising issues or completing regular check-ins.
By offering a dedicated form that can recur automatically, 1-to-1s ensure consistent communication and progress tracking across your organisation.
Functionality Breakdown
1-to-1s work as structured feedback forms that can be issued once or set to recur at regular intervals. Admins and managers can define question sets, track objectives, and review performance data—all within a single, unified view.
1-to-1s are most useful for:
Regular manager-employee check-ins
Performance reviews and feedback sessions
Tracking progress on objectives over time
Preparing structured meeting agendas
Gathering team sentiment through question sets
When in use, 1-to-1s:
Can be issued to individuals, teams, or the entire company
Support recurring cycles (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.)
Carry forward action points and agenda items between cycles
Display objectives, content completion, tasks, quizzes, exercises, and surveys
Allow both reviewee and reviewer to contribute notes and responses
Pre-requisites
To use 1-to-1s effectively, you'll need:
Users set up with manager relationships (direct reports)
At least one 1-to-1 question set created (optional but recommended)
A clear understanding of the check-in cadence you want to establish
💡 Tip: Start with a simple question set and refine it based on feedback from managers and team members.

FAQs
Q: What's the difference between a 1-to-1 Template and a 1-to-1?
A 1-to-1 Template is a reusable structure containing settings, question sets, and visibility options. A 1-to-1 is an individual instance of that template issued to a specific user. Templates can be reused; individual 1-to-1s are unique to each person and cycle.
Q: What's the difference between One-off and Cycle?
A One-off 1-to-1 is issued once and doesn't carry forward any information if re-issued. A Cycle creates recurring 1-to-1s at your chosen interval, with answers and agenda points carrying through to subsequent cycles.
Q: What date do 1-to-1 cycles recur on?
Recurrence is based on the "Share and finalise by" deadline date, not the first issue date. For example, if your deadline is 23rd December and you set a monthly recurrence, the next 1-to-1 will be due on 23rd January.
Q: Can I add a team to a 1-to-1 that's already been issued?
Yes. You can safely add a team to an existing 1-to-1 cycle without re-issuing new 1-to-1s until the next occurrence. New 1-to-1s will only be issued immediately if "Issue immediately" is set or the set date is today.
Q: Can I set up a 1-to-1 between someone and their Coach instead of their manager?
Currently, 1-to-1s are designed for manager-direct report relationships. As a workaround, you can temporarily set the coach as the user's override manager, assign the 1-to-1, then remove them once complete.
Q: Can I prevent managers from assigning 1-to-1s?
No, this is not currently configurable. Managers are granted access to 1-to-1s by design so they can actively support and develop their team members. If you'd like this to be configurable, please submit feedback through the Customer Portal.
Q: Can I bulk archive 1-to-1s?
Yes. Navigate to My Development → 1-to-1s in the sidebar, click the Individuals tab, tick the select boxes next to the 1-to-1s you want to archive, click Batch Actions, then select Archive.
Q: What's the difference between Private and Public notes?
Private notes are only visible to the person who created them. Public notes are visible to the reviewee, reviewer, and admins—useful for shared action items or discussion points.
Q: What's the difference between Saved as Draft and Finalised?
Saving as draft stores your answers without making them visible to the reviewer or marking the 1-to-1 as complete. Finalising publishes your answers, marks the 1-to-1 as complete, and triggers any notifications.
Q: How can I edit Agenda points for an issued 1-to-1?
Agenda points cannot be edited once a 1-to-1 has been issued. As a workaround, reviewers can delete the agenda point and re-add it with the correct information.
Q: Can I change settings on an already issued 1-to-1?
Settings cannot be changed after a 1-to-1 is issued. To avoid this, set the "First issue date" to a future date (a few days ahead) to give yourself time to review and adjust settings before the 1-to-1 goes live.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
1-to-1 not appearing for user | Check that the user has a manager assigned and is included in the recipients (individual, team, or company). |
Manager can't see team member's 1-to-1 | Verify the manager relationship is set correctly and check visibility settings in Settings → Company Settings → 1-to-1s. |
Notes lost after session expired | Always click "Save draft" regularly while filling in the form. Notes are only saved when you explicitly save—the system times out after extended inactivity. |
Can't edit 1-to-1 after issuing | This is expected behaviour. Set future issue dates to allow time for review before the 1-to-1 goes live. |
Cycle not recurring as expected | Check the "Share and finalise by" date—this is the date recurrence is calculated from, not the first issue date. |
Secondary manager can't see 1-to-1s | Secondary managers cannot view 1-to-1s for their secondary teams. Only direct managers and admins (if enabled) can view. |
