How Go1 Content Retires from Your Library
Overview
When Go1 retires a piece of content from their library, Learn Amp automatically archives it from your platform — no manual action required. This page explains what happens, what it means for your learners, and what you can do afterwards.
Go1 manages a library of over 80,000 pieces of content from third-party training providers. Occasionally, Go1 retires content — for example, when a course is out of date, a provider withdraws it, or licensing arrangements change. When this happens, Go1 notifies Learn Amp and Learn Amp automatically archives the matching content in your library.
This all happens automatically — no one on your team needs to do anything, and it takes effect as soon as Go1 notifies Learn Amp. Before a piece of content is fully retired, Go1 may flag it as Pending retirement — this status is visible in Learn Amp on the Manage Items page, giving administrators advance notice to act. See Managing Retired Go1 Content for guidance on monitoring Go1 statuses.
Functionality Breakdown
How automatic archival works
The process happens in three steps:
Go1 retires the content — Go1 removes or decommissions a piece of content from their catalogue and notifies Learn Amp automatically.
Learn Amp finds the item in your library — Learn Amp locates any active items in your library that correspond to the retired Go1 content.
The item is archived — Learn Amp automatically archives those items. They are hidden from learners, removed from search results, and no longer accessible through learnlists or channels.
There are no in-app notifications, emails, or alerts sent to administrators, content owners, or learners when this happens. However, administrators can monitor content approaching retirement using the Go1 Status column on the Manage Items page — items flagged as Pending retirement by Go1 will show this status before they are fully retired and archived. See Managing Retired Go1 Content for details.
What gets archived
The item itself is archived, and several associated relationships are also removed at the same time:
What changes | What happens |
|---|---|
Item visibility | Hidden from all learner-facing surfaces: catalogue, search, and learner views |
Learnlists | Item is removed from any learnlists it appeared in |
Channels and carousels | Item is removed from any channels or carousels it appeared in |
Shares | Any shares of the item are removed |
Task assignments | Completed individual task assignments are unlinked; incomplete individual tasks and group/team/company tasks are marked as deleted and no longer visible in the task log |
AI search (Volt) | Item is removed from AI-powered search results |
⚠️ Important: These associations are not automatically restored if you later unarchive the item. If you restore a retired item, it comes back as a standalone piece of content — you will need to manually re-add it to any learnlists, channels, or assignments where it previously appeared.
What is preserved
What is preserved | Detail |
|---|---|
Learner completion records | All completion history, scores, and certificates are retained |
Historical reporting | Reports referencing this content continue to show historical completion data |
The archived item itself | The item is not deleted — it can be viewed directly by administrators and unarchived if needed |
Pre-requisites
The decommissioning process itself is fully automatic — no role or permission is required to trigger it. However, the roles below determine what you can do with the archived item afterwards.

FAQs
Q: Will my learners lose access immediately?
Yes — and we know that's not ideal. As soon as Go1 notifies Learn Amp of the retirement, the item is archived and learners immediately lose access — it disappears from the catalogue, search, learnlists, and channels. There is no grace period, which is why monitoring Pending retirement status early is so valuable.
Q: Can I tell which Go1 items are at risk of being retired soon?
Yes. The Manage Items page now includes a Go1 Status column that appears automatically when you filter by the Go1 source. Items that Go1 has flagged as approaching retirement will show a Pending retirement status with an amber badge. This gives you advance visibility so you can find replacements or communicate changes to learners before the item is retired. See Managing Retired Go1 Content for a full guide.
Q: Can I tell which items have been automatically archived by Go1?
Yes. Navigate to Content > Manage Items in the sidebar, apply the Archived filter, and select Go1 in the Source filter. The Go1 Status column will appear, and items automatically retired by Go1 will show a Retired status with a red badge. This gives you a clear view of which items were retired by Go1 rather than manually archived.
Q: Can I restore an automatically archived item?
Yes. If the content is still relevant or you have an alternative version, you can unarchive it. Navigate to Content > Manage Items in the sidebar, apply the Archived filter, locate the item, click the three dots menu (⋯), and select Unarchive. Worth checking with Go1 first — retired content may no longer be playable through their player.
Q: If I restore an item, will it reappear in the original learnlists, channels, and assignments?
No. When an item is archived (whether manually or automatically), its connections to learnlists, channels, and task assignments are removed. Unarchiving the item restores it as a standalone piece of content only — you will need to manually re-add it to any learnlists, channels, or assignments where it previously appeared.
Q: Will completion data and certificates be retained?
Yes. All learner completion records, scores, and certificates are preserved even after the item is archived. Historical reports will continue to show completions for this content. Learners do not lose evidence of their achievement.
Q: Why did Go1 retire this content?
Go1 manages their own content catalogue and makes their own decisions about what stays or goes. Common reasons include outdated material, provider licensing changes, or content quality reviews. Learn Amp is not party to those decisions — for more detail, reach out to Go1 directly.
Q: Is there any way to get advance notice when Go1 is about to retire content?
Learn Amp does not send in-app, email, or Slack notifications when Go1 retires content. However, the Go1 Status column on the Manage Items page shows content that Go1 has flagged as Pending retirement, giving you advance visibility before a full retirement occurs. We recommend building a regular review of the Manage Items page — filtered by Go1 source and Pending retirement status — into your content management routine. See Managing Retired Go1 Content for guidance.
Troubleshooting
Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
A Go1 item has disappeared from the library or learner catalogue | Go1 may have automatically archived it. Go to Content > Manage Items in the sidebar, apply the Archived filter, select Go1 as the source, and search for the item. Retired items will show a red Retired badge in the Go1 Status column. |
Learners are reporting they can't find a Go1 course | Check whether the item has been archived (see above). If so, the content has likely been retired by Go1. You can share historical completion records with learners — their data is preserved. |
I unarchived the item but it's not appearing in learnlists or channels | Unarchiving restores the item only — its connections to learnlists, channels, and assignments are not automatically restored. You will need to manually re-add it in each location. |
The content player isn't working after I restored the item | Go1 has retired this content from their catalogue, so the underlying content is likely no longer available. Contact Go1 to confirm whether the content is still playable. |
I want to know exactly when the item was archived | Apply the Archived filter on the Manage Items page and select Go1 as the source. The Go1 Status column will show the Retired badge for items retired by Go1. For the precise archival date, contact Learn Amp support who can verify this at the system level. |
I can see items with a Pending retirement status — what should I do? | Review the pending items and consider finding replacement content before the retirement occurs. See Managing Retired Go1 Content for a step-by-step guide. |
