Curated for You (Open Beta)
Overview
Curated for You is a dashboard widget that lets learners describe what they want to learn in their own words and receive a personalised set of AI-curated content recommendations. Rather than browsing or relying on a set recommendation engine, learners can type a natural-language prompt — like "help me become a better manager" — and get a tailored list of up to ten relevant items from the library, presented in a scrollable carousel.
The widget is designed to meet learners where they are. It's open-ended by design: there are no categories to click through, no filters to configure. Just a prompt and a curated response. Suggestion chips are shown by default to help learners get started if they're not sure what to ask.
Curated for You is part of the Open Beta for Volt content creation agents. Content indexing must be enabled for your account before the widget will return results — see Pre-requisites for details.
Functionality Breakdown
Natural-language prompts: Learners type a free-text prompt describing what they want to learn. Queries up to 500 characters are supported
Up to 10 results: A maximum of ten content items are returned per prompt, shown in a horizontally scrollable carousel
Items only: Results are drawn from Items in your library. Learnlists and Channels are not included in Curated for You results
Suggestion chips: When the widget is idle, four ready-made prompt suggestions are shown to help learners get started:
"Help me become a better manager"
"Improve my presentation skills"
"Learn about data analytics"
"Onboarding essentials"
Loading state: After submitting a prompt, a brief animated loading state is shown while results are being retrieved
Result cards: Each card shows a thumbnail image, duration (where available), content type badge, and title
Prompt bar: Once results are loaded, the submitted prompt is displayed with Edit and Clear buttons. Selecting Edit opens an inline input for refining the prompt. Pressing Enter submits, and Escape cancels
Empty state: If no matching content is found, a clear message is shown rather than an empty carousel
Error state: If something goes wrong, a retry button is shown so learners can try again without refreshing the page
Graceful fallback: Only active, visible, non-archived content is returned — learners won't be directed to unavailable items
Dashboard placement: The widget can be added to personal or company dashboards. It is not available on team dashboards
Pre-requisites
Before Curated for You will work as expected, the following must be in place:
Volt AI Indexing must be enabled — an Owner or Admin needs to switch on content indexing from the AI Features settings. This is what allows the AI to search across your library semantically
Content must be indexed — once indexing is enabled, content is processed automatically, but newly published items may take a short time to become available in results
The widget must be added to a dashboard — an Admin, Owner, or Learning Designer needs to add the Curated for You widget to a dashboard before learners can use it
The Curated for You feature must be active for your account — this is managed at the platform level as part of the Volt Open Beta
⚠️ Curated for You is not available on team dashboards. It can only be placed on personal or company dashboards.
💡 If the widget appears on a dashboard but returns no results, check that AI content indexing is enabled and that your library contains active, visible content.
Role Requirements
Action | Roles Required |
|---|---|
Interact with the Curated for You widget (submit prompts, view results) | All authenticated users |
Add the Curated for You widget to a dashboard | Owner, Admin, Learning Designer |
Enable AI content indexing (required for the widget to function) | Owner, Admin |
Quick Start Guide
For Admins, Owners, and Learning Designers — adding the widget to a dashboard:
Navigate to the dashboard where you want to add the widget
Enter edit mode for the dashboard
Open the widget picker and select the Learning category
Find "AI curated content" and add it to the dashboard
Save the dashboard layout
For learners — using the widget:
Navigate to a dashboard that has the Curated for You widget on it
In the widget, either:
Click one of the suggestion chips to use a pre-written prompt, or
Type your own prompt into the input field and press Enter (or click the submit button)
A brief loading animation will appear while the AI curates your results
Your results will appear as a horizontally scrollable carousel — scroll left and right to browse
Click any content card to open that item
To refine your search, click Edit next to your prompt, update the text, and resubmit
To start fresh, click Clear
💡 The more specific your prompt, the more targeted the results. "Leadership skills for first-time managers" will typically return more focused content than just "leadership".
FAQs
Q: Who can use the Curated for You widget?
All authenticated users can interact with the widget and submit prompts. However, only Owners, Admins, and Learning Designers can add the widget to a dashboard.
Q: Why is the widget showing no results for my prompt?
There are a few possible reasons: AI content indexing may not be enabled for your account, your library may not yet have content indexed, or there isn't a strong match for your prompt in the library. Try rephrasing your prompt with different terms, or contact an Owner or Admin to confirm that indexing is active.
Q: Can I use Curated for You on a team dashboard?
No — the widget is only available on personal and company dashboards. Team dashboards are not supported.
Q: Does the widget return Learnlists or Channels?
No. Curated for You currently returns Items only. If you're looking for Learnlists or Channels, try the standard search.
Q: Can I configure the widget to always show results for a specific topic?
The widget doesn't have configuration options — it's designed to be driven by learner prompts each time it's used. There are no per-widget settings to lock in a topic or filter results.
Q: How many results will I see?
Up to ten content items are returned per prompt, shown in a scrollable carousel. If fewer than ten strong matches are found, fewer results will be shown.
Q: My prompt is very long — will it work?
Yes, prompts up to 500 characters are fully supported. If you paste something longer, it will be trimmed silently and the widget will still process your request.
Q: Can learners save or bookmark results from the widget?
Results link directly to content items, which learners can access as they normally would. The widget itself doesn't have a save or bookmark function — use the standard save/bookmark features within each content item if available.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely Cause | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
The widget appears but returns no results | AI content indexing is not enabled, or content has not yet been indexed | Ask an Owner or Admin to enable AI content indexing via AI Features settings. Allow time for indexing to complete once it's enabled |
The widget is not visible on the dashboard | The widget has not been added to the dashboard | An Owner, Admin, or Learning Designer needs to add the "AI curated content" widget to the dashboard via the widget picker |
The widget is not available to add (not showing in the widget picker) | Curated for You is not yet active for your account | Contact support to check whether the feature is part of your current Volt Open Beta access |
Results don't seem relevant to the prompt | The prompt may be too short or vague | Encourage learners to use more descriptive, specific prompts. "Excel for financial reporting" will return more focused results than "Excel" |
The widget shows an error and a retry button | A temporary issue occurred during the request | Click the retry button to resubmit the prompt. If the error persists, try refreshing the page |
Widget cannot be added to a team dashboard | Curated for You does not support team dashboards | Add the widget to a personal or company dashboard instead |
Newly published content does not appear in results | Content indexing may have a short processing delay for new items | Wait a short while after publishing, then try the prompt again |
