What are Objectives and how to use them?

Objectives can be used to track progress on goals set by the company.

What are Objectives?

  • OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) is a goal system that aims to create engagement and alignment within a company that allows employees to understand what they are working towards, and for what cause. 

    • An Objective is an overall goal.

    • Key Results are measurable results that must be completed for the overall Objective goal to be achieved.

  • OKRs help to break down an overall goal into achievable steps on Individual, Team, and Company levels.

  • With Objectives, users can see their OKRs and report on their progress.

How do I create an Objective?

In the top navigation bar, select theicon, and add an Objective

It will open a creator with the following options:

Create new / Pick a Pre-set

You can either select existing Objective settings or create a new objective set-up to assign to signle/multiple users.

Setting the owner

  • Each Objective must have an overall owner.

  • This owner will be the person responsible for carrying out the Objective as a whole.

What are the different levels of Objective?

 

Self-development: This will be an Objective that a person sets for themselves. For example, someone who wants to set themselves the task of being able to code in Javascript. Please note: All self-development Objectives are set to private and can only be viewed by the person who has set them.

Individual - pick particular users by writing their name in the search bar

Team/Group - choose groups of users by Team/Group name. When new users within the Team/Group are added - Objectives will be automatically assigned to them

Company - this Objective will be assigned for all the users within the system.

 

What is the overall Objective?

In this section you can fill in your objectives name and add details.

Make private

  • Self-development Objectives are set to private.

  • Individual, Team, and Company Objectives are set to public.

If you want to make Individual, Team, or Company Objectives private, you can do this by checking the following button:

 

Tags

  • You can add 'tags' to make them easier to find

  • Add relevant Tags to your Objectives by typing them in the search box

 

When is this Objective set for?

  • You can choose from Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 or other custom options selected in the Company Settings.

  • You can change the dates of each quarter to suit your own company in Company Settings>Objectives.

  • If you select one of the quarters, the dates will automatically fill in.

 

You will be able to later change the deadline by editing the Objective:

Key Results

  • Add various Key results needed to accomplish the Objective

  • Choose a description, completion type and other settings

Completion type

Mark as complete

  • A user will manually have to mark the Key Result as complete.

  • This is useful in cases where the Objective is not quantifiable. For example, if the Key Result is to "Improve employee satisfaction" within the company.

Pass scoring

  • Set a value to be achieved for this Key Result

  • This is useful when the Objective is quantifiable. 

Maintain value within a range

  • Set a range to be maintained for this Key Result

  • This is useful if you want to add a bit of scope and flexibility to your Key Result. 

  • Marking as 100% if above/below the range means that the Key Result will be marked as 100% if the value is recorded as above the specified range (if you select upper) or if the value is recorded as below the specified range (if you select lower).

Please note that you can choose from various symbols and currencies when setting an Objective. 

Other settings

Contribute to Objective progress?

  • Decide if you want this Key Result to contribute to Objective progress.

  • If this Key Result is marked as completed, the overall Objective’s progress will reflect that

Key Result has its own dates?

  • You have an option to set deadlines independently from the Objective 

Changing Key Result owner

  • You can pick the key result owner to be a different user, than the Objective owner

Once you’ve added an Objective it will be visible for the users selected on the Asses>Objective Dashboard>My Objectives.
