Survey Creation (Open Beta)

Survey Creation (Open Beta)

Volt can create a survey for you in seconds — just describe what you need and it'll handle the rest. This feature is currently in Open Beta.

Overview

The Survey Creator agent lets Admins and Owners generate surveys directly from a natural language conversation with Volt. Rather than building a survey question by question, just describe what you need and Volt will handle the structure — question types, options, scale settings and all.

All surveys created by Volt are saved as drafts. You retain full control to review, edit, and publish them when you're ready.

This feature is currently in Open Beta. It's available to all customers with Volt enabled — and we'd love to hear what you think as we keep developing it.

Functionality Breakdown

What the Survey Creator Does

When you ask Volt to create a survey, it:

  1. Interprets your natural language request and determines the survey title, description, and question structure

  2. Generates each question with the appropriate question type and any relevant options or scale settings

  3. Creates the survey as a draft in your Learn Amp platform

  4. Returns a Review and publish link so you can check the survey before making it live

The survey is created in draft state — it is not assigned to any learners and is not published until you take action from the survey editor.

Supported Question Types

Volt can generate three types of survey questions:

Question Type

Description

Default Behaviour

Question Type

Description

Default Behaviour

Opinion scale

A numeric rating scale (e.g. Likert-style)

Defaults to a 1–5 scale unless you specify otherwise. You can request a different range, e.g. 0–10.

Multiple choice

A question with a defined set of answer options

Volt generates the options based on your prompt. You can specify the options yourself if you prefer.

Free text

An open-ended question with a text response field

No additional configuration needed.

💡 You can mix question types in the same survey — for example, "Create a survey with 3 opinion scale questions and 2 open-ended questions."

Survey Configuration

When generating a survey, Volt sets the following fields based on your prompt:

Field

Description

Field

Description

Name

The survey title — generated from your description

Description

A longer explanation of the survey's purpose (optional)

Short description

A short tagline shown on the survey tile, up to 400 characters (optional)

Anonymous responses

If you ask for anonymous responses, Volt will configure the survey accordingly. Responses are not anonymous by default.

What Volt Creates

  • Saved as a draft — not live or assigned until you publish it

  • Marked as created by AI — so you can easily identify Volt-generated surveys in your platform

  • Listed under your name as the survey author

  • Visible immediately in the Surveys section of your platform

Quick Start Guide

  1. From the sidebar, select Settings, then AI Features

  2. Ensure Volt AI Assistants is toggled on

  3. Scroll to the agent list and enable the Survey creator toggle, then save

  4. Open Volt using the floating icon on the right side of the screen

  5. Type a natural language request — for example:

    • "Create a survey about onboarding feedback with 5 Likert-scale questions"

    • "Build an anonymous end-of-year survey with 3 opinion scale questions and 2 open-ended questions"

    • "Create a survey called 'Manager Effectiveness' with multiple choice questions on communication, support, and development"

  6. Volt will generate the survey and return a Review and publish link

  7. Click the link to open the survey in draft mode, review the questions, make any edits, and publish when ready

💡 The more specific you are in your prompt, the closer Volt's output will be to what you need. Include the survey name, number of questions, question types, and any topics you want covered.

FAQs

Q: Is the survey published immediately when Volt creates it?
No. Volt always creates surveys in draft state. The survey won't be visible to learners or assigned to anyone until you open it and publish it yourself. You'll receive a "Review and publish" link to make this easy.

Q: Can I specify the scale range for opinion scale questions?
Yes. By default, Volt uses a 1–5 scale for opinion scale questions. If you want a different range — for example, 0–10 — just mention it in your prompt, e.g. "Create a survey with 5 opinion scale questions rated from 0 to 10."

Q: Can I make the survey anonymous?
Yes. If you ask Volt to make the survey anonymous, it will configure anonymous responses for you. You can also update this setting manually in the survey editor.

Q: Can I edit the survey after Volt creates it?
Yes. The survey is saved as a draft in your platform, and you can edit it just like any manually created survey. You can add, remove, or reorder questions; update answer options; change question types; and adjust any settings — all before publishing.

Q: How do I find the survey after it's created?
You can follow the "Review and publish" link that Volt provides in the chat response. You can also find it by navigating to the Surveys section of your platform, where it will appear as a draft.

Q: Does Volt support all question types available in the survey editor?
Currently, Volt supports three question types: opinion scale, multiple choice, and free text. Other question types available in the full survey editor are not yet supported by the Survey Creator agent.

Q: What if the survey doesn't look right?
Open it in the survey editor and adjust it manually. You can also try asking Volt again with a more detailed prompt. Use the thumbs down button on Volt's response to flag any issues — your feedback helps us improve.
