Understanding Content Editing Restrictions

Understanding Content Editing Restrictions

Overview

When editing content in Learn Amp, you may find that some sections are editable while others are not. This is usually because the content originated from a partner library or external source, which restricts what can be modified locally.

This guide explains why editing restrictions exist and what you can do about them.

Functionality Breakdown

Why Can't I Edit Everything?

Editing restrictions typically apply when:

  • Content is from a partner library: Items pushed from providers like Go1, Skillshub, or other partner libraries have limited editability to preserve content integrity

  • Content is from the Learn Amp Library: Approved library content is managed centrally

  • You have limited permissions: Your role may not include full editing rights for certain content

What Can Typically Be Edited?

For library content, you can usually edit:

  • Topics and skill levels

  • Custom metadata fields specific to your organisation

  • Visibility and assignment settings

What Cannot Typically Be Edited?

  • Title and description (managed by the content provider)

  • Core content files (videos, SCORM packages)

  • Provider-specific metadata

Pre-requisites

To edit content (where editing is permitted), you need one of these roles:

  • Owner – Full access within their company

  • Admin – Administrative access within their company

  • Learning Designer – Can create and manage learning content

  • Curator – Can curate and manage content

For some library content, even these roles have restricted editing capabilities.

Quick Start Guide

Checking Content Source

  1. Navigate to the content you want to edit

  2. Look for source indicators (e.g., "From Go1", "Library Content")

  3. Content from external sources will have more restrictions

Editing What You Can

  1. Open the content for editing

  2. Navigate to the sections you want to change

  3. Editable fields will be active; restricted fields will be greyed out or absent

  4. Make your changes and save

If You Need Changes to Restricted Fields

  1. Contact your administrator

  2. For partner library content, changes may need to be made at the source

  3. For Learn Amp Library content, contact Learn Amp support

FAQs

Q: Can I create my own version of library content to have full control?
You can typically create new Items with your own content. However, duplicating library content may not be permitted depending on licensing terms.

Q: Why are some fields editable on some library content but not others?
Different content providers have different policies about what customers can modify.

Q: Will provider updates overwrite my changes?
For the fields you can edit (like topics), your changes are preserved. Provider updates only affect fields they manage.
