Resetting a Learner’s Quiz Attempt
Overview
When a learner has used all their available quiz attempts, Admins can manually delete one of their past attempts. This effectively resets their attempt count and allows them to retake the quiz. This is particularly helpful when supporting reassessments, resolving technical issues, or correcting accidental submissions.
Functionality Breakdown
You can delete individual quiz attempts directly from the quiz reporting view. Once an attempt is removed:
The learner regains an available attempt (up to the maximum allowed in the quiz settings).
Reporting updates immediately to reflect the deleted attempt.
The learner can retake the quiz as normal.
Important: Deleted attempts cannot be restored.
Pre-requisites
Before you begin, ensure:
You have Admin permissions with access to quiz reporting.
The learner has already made one or more quiz attempts.
Required User Roles
To delete quiz attempts, you must have one of the following roles:
Owner – Full access within their company
Admin – Administrative access
Learning Designer – Create and manage learning content
Note: Curators, Managers, HR, and other roles cannot delete quiz attempts, even if they can view quiz reports.
Quick Start Guide
To reset a learner's quiz attempt:
Navigate to Reporting → Quizzes in the sidebar navigation.
Locate the quiz in question.
Click the three dots (⋯) next to the quiz name and select View Report.
In the report view, find the learner whose attempt you want to delete.
Click the dropdown in the Attempts column for that learner.
Identify the specific attempt to remove.
Click the three dots (⋯) next to that attempt.
Select Delete Attempt.
Once deleted, the learner will have one additional opportunity to retake the quiz — provided they are still within the maximum allowed attempts.
FAQs
Q: Can I restore a deleted attempt?
No. Deleted attempts are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Q: What if the learner still can't retake the quiz after deletion?
Check the quiz settings under Manage → Learning Content → Quizzes to confirm the total number of allowed attempts. If the learner has reached that maximum, you may need to increase the limit.
Q: Can I delete attempts in bulk?
No. Attempts must be deleted individually for each learner.
Q: Will the learner be notified automatically?
No. The system does not send notifications when an attempt is deleted. It's best to inform the learner manually.
Q: Can I delete attempts for multiple learners at once?
No. Each learner's attempts must be deleted individually. You'll need to repeat the process for each learner.
