Overview

The Directory in Learn Amp helps users discover and connect with colleagues across your organisation. It provides a searchable list of all users, making it easy to find people based on their name, expertise, or other profile information.

The Directory is available in two naming variants—Employee Directory for standard company platforms, or Member Directory for community-based platforms—but both function identically.


Functionality Breakdown

The Directory serves as a central hub for finding people within your platform:

  • Search by Name – Quickly locate specific individuals

  • Search by Expertise – Find colleagues with particular skills or knowledge areas

  • View Profiles – Access user profile information directly from the Directory

  • Filter Options – On community platforms, additional filters are available for industry, company size, and company name

Employee Directory vs Member Directory

There is no functional difference between the two—only the name changes based on your platform type:

To access the Directory feature, your organisation needs:

  • A Connect or Perform package

  • The Directory feature enabled by an administrator

All users with platform access can view and use the Directory.

How to Access

Navigate to Community > Employee Directory (or Member Directory, depending on your settings).

User Capabilities

All users with access to the Directory can:

  • Search for colleagues by name

  • Search by expertise tags

  • View user profiles

  • See expertise tags on user tiles

Administrator Capabilities

Administrators can:

  • Enable or disable the Directory feature

  • Choose between "Employee Directory" or "Member Directory" naming

  • Configure which user information is displayed


FAQs

Q: What's the difference between Employee Directory and Member Directory?
There's no functional difference—it's simply a naming choice. "Member Directory" is recommended for community platforms, while "Employee Directory" suits standard company platforms.

Q: How do users add their expertise to appear in the Directory?
Users can add expertise tags through their profile settings. Go to your avatar > Profile & Preferences > Key Info > Expertise. These tags will appear on your profile and in the Directory.

Q: Can I search for users by skills or knowledge areas?
Yes! Use the Expertise filter in the Directory to find colleagues with specific skills. Users must have added relevant expertise tags to their profiles to appear in these searches.

Q: Why can't I see the Directory in my navigation?
The Directory requires a Connect or Perform package. If you have the right package but still can't see it, contact your administrator—the feature may need to be enabled.

Q: Can I hide my profile from the Directory?
This depends on your organisation's settings. Speak to your administrator about privacy options if you have concerns about visibility.

Q: What information shows on user tiles in the Directory?
User tiles typically display the person's name, profile photo, job title, and expertise tags. The exact fields shown depend on your organisation's configuration.

Verify the person has an active account. Try searching by name rather than expertise if their tags aren't set up.

Expertise search returns no results

Users need to add expertise tags to their profiles. Encourage colleagues to update their profile information.

My expertise tags aren't showing

Go to Profile & Preferences > Key Info and ensure your expertise tags are saved. Changes may take a few minutes to appear.

Directory shows wrong name (Employee vs Member)

Contact your administrator to update the Directory naming in platform settings.
