Event Estimated Duration
Overview
Event Estimated Duration tells learners how much time to set aside for an event. This duration appears on event tiles and detail pages, helping learners plan their schedules and filter events by time commitment.
When events are added to Learning Paths, their durations contribute to the total path time, giving learners a clear picture of the overall commitment required.
Functionality Breakdown
Duration Options
Events use predefined duration categories designed for training and meeting contexts:
Duration | Approximate Time |
|---|---|
Less than 2 hours | Quick sessions, short workshops |
2-4 hours | Half-day training |
4-8 hours | Full-day training |
8-12 hours | Extended or multi-session training |
More than 12 hours | Multi-day programmes |
Custom time | Specify exact hours/minutes |

Custom Time
For events that don't fit standard categories, use Custom Time to specify:
Hours: Whole hours (e.g., 3)
Minutes: Additional minutes (e.g., 30)
Example: A 3.5-hour workshop would be set as 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Duration vs Session Length
Concept | What It Represents |
|---|---|
Event Duration | The estimated total learning time (set manually) |
Session Length | Actual scheduled time (calculated from start/end times) |
These may differ—for example, a 2-hour session might have a 3-hour duration if preparation or follow-up work is expected.

FAQs
Is duration required for events?
A default duration is set, but you should update it to accurately reflect the actual time commitment.
Does changing session times update the duration?
No, duration is set independently. If session times change significantly, remember to update the estimated duration manually.
How is duration used in Learning Paths?
The durations of all items in a Learning Path are summed to show the total estimated completion time.
Can learners see exact custom times?
Yes, custom times display as specified (e.g., "3 hours 30 minutes").
What if my event has variable-length sessions?
Use the duration that best represents the typical or average experience for learners.
Does duration affect any automated features?
Duration is primarily informational. It doesn't affect session scheduling, reminders, or completion logic.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Duration not showing on event tile | Verify a duration is set. Some tile layouts may not display duration. |
Custom time not saving correctly | Ensure you've entered valid numbers. Hours and minutes should be whole numbers. |
Learning Path total time seems wrong | Check durations on individual events. Items with no duration may not contribute to totals. |
Can't find duration filter | Duration filtering may not be available in all views. Try the main search/discover page. |
Duration doesn't match session length | Duration is set manually and may differ from scheduled times. Update if needed. |
