Logging In As Another User
Overview
The "Login as" feature allows admins, owners, and — with the appropriate toggle enabled — Learning Designers to view Learn Amp exactly as another user sees it. This is invaluable for troubleshooting, testing permissions, or understanding how different roles experience the platform.
Pre-requisites
Role Requirements
Role | Access |
|---|---|
Admin | Can log in as users within their company (if the "Add, edit or delete users" permission is enabled for Admins) |
Owner | Can log in as any user within their company |
Learning Designer | Can log in as users within their company if the "Log in as other users" toggle has been enabled by an admin |
⚠️ Warning: Learning Designers cannot impersonate Owner, Admin, or Super Admin users. This restriction is hard-coded and cannot be overridden, even when the "Log in as other users" toggle is enabled.
Learners, Curators, HR, and Reporters cannot use this feature.

Returning to Your Account
To switch back to your own account:
Sign out of the current session
Sign back in with your normal credentials
💡 Tip: You'll see an indicator showing you're logged in as another user. Always sign out and back in when you're finished to return to your own account.
Enabling "Log in as" for a Learning Designer
Admins can grant a Learning Designer the ability to use this feature:
From the sidebar, navigate to People → Manage → Individuals
Click the user's name → Edit details → Role tab
Ensure Learning Designer is selected
Tick the "Log in as other users" checkbox
Click Save
The "Log in as" option will appear in the three-dot menu of eligible user profiles immediately. The Learning Designer will only see this option for users who are not Admin, Owner, or Super Admin.
FAQs
Q: Will the user know I logged in as them?
The user won't receive a notification, but the action is logged in the audit trail for transparency.
Q: Can I complete tasks or learning on behalf of the user?
Technically yes, but this should be avoided. Any actions taken while logged in as another user will be recorded as that user's activity.
Q: Why can't I see the "Log in as" option?
Check the following:
You need Admin or Owner role, or Learning Designer role with the "Log in as other users" toggle enabled by an admin.
If you're a Learning Designer, the option will not appear for users with Admin, Owner, or Super Admin roles — this is by design.
For Admins, check that the "Add, edit or delete users" permission is enabled in company settings.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
Can't find "Log in as" option | Ensure you have Admin or Owner role, or that you're a Learning Designer with the "Log in as other users" toggle enabled. The option appears in the three-dot menu next to the user. |
"Log in as" option missing for a specific user | If you're a Learning Designer, you cannot impersonate Admin, Owner, or Super Admin users — this is a hard restriction. |
Logged in as wrong user | Sign out completely and sign back in with your credentials, then try again. |
Can't see user's content | The user may not have been assigned that content, or it may be restricted by group membership. |
Session expired unexpectedly | For security, "Login as" sessions may have shorter timeouts. Sign in again if needed. |
