What is the relationship between ‘Skills’ and ‘Expertise’? Do 'Skills' feed into 'Expertise'?
Expertise is more to do with the directory and finding users who are experts in a certain topic/area.
As expertise was developed first, it was originally a way for people to highlight their expertise within the Member's directory.
Although, we eventually want to connect Skills with Expertise.
For example, have the system automatically make someone with a high skill rating an expert either as an option or as the only way to set expertise.
There is currently no timeline on this work.
The difference between Skills and Expertise:
Expertise
A User adds an expertise to their profile
The user is then tagged as an Expert in that particular skill
Other users can then filter through the Employee/Member's Directory to and find these Experts
Skills
A user adds a skill to their profile
This skill feeds directly into that user's recommendations e.g. recommended content
Users can also track their own ratings over time, compare them to their target or compare them to their managers in order to improve by setting targets and requesting their manager's ratings
Skills can also be used to identify users' strengths and opportunities for development via the various reports available on the site e.g. Average skill rating and Skills visualiser
