FAQs
Q: Do you have a library of skills?
Yes, Learn Amp includes thousands of skills organised into categories covering areas like Leadership, Software Development, Health and Wellness, and much more. You can use these as-is, toggle them on or off, or add your own.
Q: Can we manage skills and skill categories?
Absolutely. You have full control to add, edit, enable, or disable skills and categories. Skills can be added manually or imported via CSV, and you can create custom categories to organise them.
Q: How do learners select skills they're interested in?
Learners are prompted to select skills during onboarding when they first join. They can also update their skills at any time via their profile or the My Skills widget.
Q: How do skill interests inform content recommendations?
The skills learners select feed directly into recommendations. If you select "Social Media Marketing", for example, you'll see a channel of recommended content on your Discover page. Up to three skill categories rotate on the Discover page to keep content fresh.
Q: How do learners rate their skills?
Skill ratings use a scale (typically 1–5) from Novice to Expert. Learners can self-rate, set targets, or request a manager rating. Each level includes guidance to help users rate accurately.
Q: Can we define proficiency levels per skill?
Yes. You can define custom descriptions for each proficiency level on a per-skill basis. This means Level 3 in "Communication" can have a different definition from Level 3 in "Project Management".
Q: How do I auto-assign skills to users?
Set up your HRIS integration to sync job titles, then configure Roles with associated Skills in Company Settings. Enable the setting to use Job Title to control users' Roles, and skills will be assigned automatically when job titles are updated.
Q: What's the difference between Skills and Expertise?
Skills focus on development—learners rate their proficiency, track progress, and receive content recommendations. Expertise is more about the directory—users add expertise to their profile to be found by others as an "Expert" in that area. Currently, these are separate features, though future enhancements may connect them.
Q: Can I use Skills for succession planning?
While Learn Amp is primarily a People Development platform, the skills tools can help identify skill gaps to inform hiring or development decisions. The Skills Visualiser is particularly useful for comparing skills across team members.
Q: What reports are available for Skills?
Several reports help you understand skill distribution across your organisation:
Total skill ratings – Number of ratings across all skills
Total skills rated – Number of unique skills with at least one rating
Average skill rating – Overall average across all skills
Skills frequency – Plots ratings against averages to show strengths
Skills distribution – Shows highest, lowest, and average for each skill
Highest rated with... – Find top performers for specific skills
Skills Visualiser – Compare up to 8 skills across selected users
