Tracking Progress on Objectives

Overview

Tracking progress is where Objectives come alive. As you work towards your goals, Learn Amp helps you measure success through Key Results, status updates, and automatic progress calculations.

This guide explains how progress tracking works and how to keep your Objectives up to date.

Functionality Breakdown

Progress tracking in Objectives includes:

• Key Result completion – Update values or mark Key Results as done

• Progress calculation – Automatic aggregation of contributing Key Results

• Status indicators – Qualitative progress communication (On Track, Behind, At Risk)

• Notifications – Alerts for deadline reminders and progress milestones

Pre-requisites

To track progress on Objectives, ensure:

• You have access to the Objective (owner, Key Result owner, or Admin)

• The Objective has Key Results configured

Quick Start Guide

Step 1: Access your Objectives

Navigate to Assess → Objectives in the sidebar, then select the My Objectives tab to see Objectives you own or contribute to.

Step 2: Update a Key Result

Select an Objective to view its details, then find the Key Result you want to update.

For "Pass scoring" Key Results:

1. Select the Key Result

2. Enter the current value in the result field

3. Progress calculates automatically based on your target

For "Maintain value within range" Key Results:

1. Select the Key Result

2. Enter the current value

3. Progress shows whether you're within the acceptable range

For "Mark as complete" Key Results:

1. Select the checkbox or toggle

2. The Key Result is marked as 100% complete

Step 3: Understand progress calculation

Overall Objective progress is calculated from contributing Key Results and child Objectives:

• Each contributing Key Result or child Objective has equal weight

• If you have 4 contributing Key Results, each represents 25% of the total

• Only Key Results with "Contribute to Objective progress" enabled are included

💡 Tip: If progress isn't updating as expected, check that your Key Results have the "Contribute to Objective progress" setting enabled.

Step 4: Set status manually

While progress is calculated automatically, status is set manually to communicate qualitative progress:

⚠️ Warning: When you mark an Objective as "At Risk", stakeholders with notifications enabled receive an alert.

Step 5: Monitor deadlines

Learn Amp sends automatic email reminders:

• Due in a week – Reminder one week before the deadline

• Due today – Reminder on the deadline day

• Overdue – Alert when the deadline has passed

FAQs

Q: Why isn't my Objective progress updating?
Check that Key Results have "Contribute to Objective progress" enabled. Key Results without this setting don't factor into the overall percentage.

Q: What happens when all Key Results are complete?
The Objective reaches 100% progress. You can then close it with a retrospective score and comment.

Q: Can I have Key Results that don't contribute to progress?
Yes. Disable "Contribute to Objective progress" for Key Results you want to track separately without affecting the overall percentage.

Q: How do child Objectives affect progress?
Child Objectives with "Contribute to parent progress" enabled are treated like Key Results—their progress factors into the parent Objective's calculation.

Q: Can I backdate progress updates?
No. Progress updates are recorded with the current timestamp. Historical changes are tracked in the Objective's history.
