📊 Create your own custom insights and reports via Advanced Analytics
A step-by-step guide to building custom widgets and reports using Advanced Analytics.
🧭 Overview
This article walks you through how to create insights in Learn Amp and save them as either custom widgets (for dashboards) or reports.
This functionality is available to users with the following roles:
Admin
Owner
Reporter
HR
🧰 Accessing the Advanced Analytics Tool
You can start building insights using the Advanced Analytics tool in one of three ways:
➕ Create a Widget
Navigate to any dashboard
Click “Add Widget”
Select “Create Widget”
📑 Create a Report
Go to Reporting → Saved Reports
Click “Create Report”
📊 Open the Advanced Analytics Tool Directly
Go to Reporting → Advanced Analytics
Click the Advanced Analytics tile
All three options will launch the Advanced Analytics tool — your workspace for building and customising visualisations.
💡 Good to know: You don’t need to decide upfront whether to save your insight as a widget or a report. When saving, you’ll be able to choose the format that best fits your needs.
📊 Build Your Insight
1️⃣ Choose a Visualisation Type
Decide how you'd like your data to be presented — such as a bar chart, table, line graph, or another format.
👉 Need pointers to choose? See Visualisation Types in Advanced Analytics
2️⃣ Select Relevant Data Points
Use the left-hand menu in the Advanced Analytics tool to browse or search for data points.
Data points are organised into tables (e.g. Users, Tasks, Content)
You can:
Scroll through the full list
Use the search bar to quickly find specific fields or tables
Once you’ve found the data you need, drag and drop fields into:
The central canvas
The relevant chart fields (based on your chosen visualisation)
The Filter area at the top (for slicing your data)
💡 Tips
🧠 Not sure what a field means?
Use the Advanced Analytics Data Schema to check definitions for each field.📅 Working with dates?
Date-related fields are grouped under a single “Date” item at the top of the data list. Once added to your visualisation or as a filter, you’ll be able to choose the exact date type it should use via drop-down menu (e.g. Completed at, Deadline etc.).
💾 Save and Share Your Insight
Once you're happy with your visualisation:
Enter a clear, descriptive title
Click Save
Choose how you'd like to save it:
Save directly to a dashboard
Save as a report
Your insight will also be automatically added to the Widget catalogue as soon as you click Save.
