Overview

The AI Taxonomy Generator helps you build a comprehensive Learning Taxonomy quickly using artificial intelligence. Instead of manually creating hundreds of Topics and mapping them to Roles, this tool guides you through the process conversationally and produces an upload-ready CSV file.

This is particularly valuable when you're setting up Learn Amp for the first time or want to align your learning content with your organisation's skills framework.

Functionality Breakdown

The AI Taxonomy Generator offers two main capabilities:

Map Skills to Roles

This option helps you:

• Create a structured taxonomy of skills grouped by role

• Ensure each role has the appropriate skills mapped

• Generate a complete skills framework based on your organisation's roles

• Produce a CSV ready to upload to your Learning Taxonomy

Enrich Skills with AI

This option enhances your existing Topics by:

• Auto-generating descriptions for Topics that lack them

• Suggesting Associated Topics for better content recommendations

• Improving the overall quality of your taxonomy

How It Works

1. You select one of the AI tools

2. The AI guides you through a conversation, asking questions about your organisation

3. Based on your responses, it generates recommendations

4. You can refine the suggestions through follow-up messages

5. The final output is a CSV file you can download and import

Pre-requisites

To use the AI Taxonomy Generator, you'll need:

• Access to Company Settings

• OpenAI Assistant feature enabled for your organisation

• Ideally, Roles already set up in Learn Amp (for best results)

Quick Start Guide

Accessing the AI Taxonomy Generator

1. Click Settings in the sidebar

2. Select Company Settings

3. Navigate to Learning Taxonomy → Generate Taxonomy

Using "Map Skills to Roles"

1. Click the Map skills to roles card

2. The AI will ask about your organisation's roles and structure

3. Respond to each question naturally—describe your roles, departments, or job functions

4. Review the suggested skills for each role

5. Provide feedback to refine the suggestions

6. When satisfied, download the generated CSV

7. Import the CSV via Learning Taxonomy → Manage Topics

Using "Enrich Skills with AI"

1. Click the Enrich skills with AI card

2. The AI will analyse your existing Topics

3. It will suggest descriptions and associations

4. Review and refine the suggestions

5. Download the enhanced CSV

6. Import to update your existing Topics

Importing the Generated CSV

1. Go to Settings → Company Settings → Imports → Topics Import

2. Upload the downloaded CSV

3. Review the preview for any issues

4. Click Import to apply the changes

Getting the Best Results

Set Up Roles First

The AI works best when your Roles are already configured in Learn Amp. If you haven't set these up:

1. Go to Settings → Company Settings → Learning Taxonomy → Manage Roles

2. Add your organisation's key roles

3. Then return to the AI Taxonomy Generator

💡 Tip: You can sync roles from your HRIS to keep them automatically updated.

Be Specific in Your Responses

When chatting with the AI:

• Describe your industry and organisation type

• Mention any specific skills frameworks you use (e.g., SFIA, competency models)

• Highlight key skills or capabilities important to your organisation

• Provide examples of roles and the skills they need

Iterate and Refine

• Don't expect perfection on the first pass

• Use follow-up messages to refine suggestions

• Ask the AI to add, remove, or modify specific skills

• Review the output before importing

FAQs

Q: Does the AI have access to my organisation's data?
A: The AI uses information you provide in the conversation plus your configured Roles. It doesn't access learner data or content.

Q: Can I edit the CSV before importing?
A: Yes! The downloaded CSV is a standard file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. Make any adjustments before importing.

Q: What if I don't like the AI's suggestions?
A: You can continue the conversation to refine the output, start over with a new conversation, or manually edit the downloaded CSV.

Q: Will this overwrite my existing taxonomy?
A: Only if you import Topics with the same names or IDs. New Topics will be added; existing ones remain unchanged unless explicitly updated.

Q: Is the AI Taxonomy Generator available for all organisations?
A: This feature requires the OpenAI Assistant to be enabled. Contact your Learn Amp representative if you don't see this option.

Q: How long does the generation process take?
A: Typically a few minutes for the conversation, depending on complexity. The actual CSV generation is almost instant.
