Items

Items

Overview

Items are the building blocks of learning content in Learn Amp. Each Item represents a single piece of learning material—whether that's an article, video, document, e-learning module, or interactive page.

Items can be standalone learning resources or combined into Learnlists and Channels to create structured learning journeys. They support a variety of content types and completion tracking methods to suit different learning needs.

Functionality Breakdown

Items serve as containers for learning content. When creating an Item, you can:

  • Choose from multiple content types (weblinks, files, e-learning, page builder, and more)

  • Configure completion tracking (manual, automatic, or based on e-learning progress)

  • Add engagement features like Q&A, discussions, and reviews

  • Attach exercises for assessment

  • Set visibility and permissions

  • Schedule go-live and expiry dates

Items support these key use cases:

  • Sharing external resources via weblinks

  • Uploading documents, videos, and files

  • Hosting SCORM and xAPI e-learning packages

  • Building custom pages with rich content

  • Recording offline actions and activities

FAQs

Q: What file types can I upload?
We accept most common file types including documents, images, audio, and video. For security, we block executable files (.exe, .php, .bat, etc.). See the File Types and Upload Requirements article for full details.

Q: What's the maximum file size?
The platform accepts files up to 2GB. For videos, we recommend keeping files under 50MB for the best user experience. PDFs also have a 2GB limit.

Q: Why isn't my PDF preview displaying correctly?
Try converting the document using a PDF creator tool (such as PDFCreator on Windows) to ensure compatibility with Learn Amp's preview feature.

Q: Why won't my content mark as complete?
This can happen for several reasons: unstable internet connection, page timeout, minimum pass score not met, or not all elements viewed. For e-learning, ensure you've clicked through all interactive elements and watched all videos to completion.

Q: Why is text not pasting into the page builder?
If the text has comments attached (from Word or other editors), it won't paste correctly. The comment metadata adds code that the page builder can't interpret. Remove comments from the source text before pasting.

Q: Can I display a PowerPoint presentation?
PowerPoint files can't be uploaded directly. Convert your presentation to PDF format first, then upload the PDF as a File Item. The slides will display in Learn Amp's document viewer.

Q: What happens when an Item expires?
When an Item reaches its expiry date: it's removed from search results and any Learnlists/Channels it appeared in, Admins and Curators receive a notification, and the Item can be un-expired by updating the expiry date.

Q: Can I embed LearnAmp videos using an iframe?
No, LearnAmp does not support permanent iframe embedding of video content hosted on the platform. Video links are only accessible via signed URLs that expire after 30 minutes—this is a core security feature that protects content from unauthorized access. If you need to embed videos externally, host them on a public server (YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or your own S3 bucket) and use their embed codes instead.
