Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Overview

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points are a widely recognised way to track learning and skill development over time. In Learn Amp, CPD points help users meet annual training goals and ensure they stay up to date with key policies, processes, and knowledge.

CPD points inclusion on the platform supports users in regulated industries and those committed to continuous improvement.

Functionality Breakdown

In Learn Amp, you can assign CPD points or time to a range of content types, including:

  • Items

  • Events

  • Quizzes

  • Event Sessions

Each company can set whether they track CPD as points or hours, with most organisations preferring hours. The platform adapts accordingly, asking for the relevant input when assigning CPD.

HR, Owners, and Admins can:

  • Set annual targets (points or time, with optional breakdowns for formal/informal learning)

  • Enable or disable CPD globally

  • Monitor CPD progress across users, teams, and groups

  • Export reports and summaries

Learners can:

  • View their progress and targets from their dashboard

  • See their activity breakdown and remaining points needed

  • Complete assigned content with CPD values

  • Submit CPD activities for approval (if enabled)

  • Edit their own CPD submissions

FAQs

Q: What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?
A: CPD refers to the process of tracking and documenting skills, knowledge, and experience gained both formally and informally as you work. It's a record of what you experience, learn, and apply.

Q: How is CPD tracked in Learn Amp?
A: Learn Amp tracks CPD through content completion. When you complete content (items, events, quizzes) that has CPD values assigned, those points/hours are automatically credited to your CPD record.

Q: Can I track both formal and informal learning?
A: Yes. CPD schemes can be configured with separate targets for formal and informal learning, or a combined total target.

Q: Who can see my CPD progress?
A: Your CPD progress is visible to you, your manager (if applicable), and administrators. The level of detail visible depends on their role.

Q: What happens when my CPD cycle ends?
A: When a CPD cycle ends, your progress is recorded and a new cycle begins (for ongoing schemes). Historical data is preserved for compliance and reporting purposes.

Q: Can I edit my CPD submissions?
A: Yes. If you've submitted a CPD activity yourself, you can edit it by clicking on the activity in your CPD log. See Editing CPD Submissions as a Learner for details.
